The International Labour Organization sets out international labour standards and clearly defines the basic principles and rights at work in a number of conventions and related recommendations. The Ministry of Labour acts as the vehicle for ratifying these conventions on the behalf of the Government of Barbados and therefore represents a legally binding agreement to meet the standards established in the conventions. 


To date, the following conventions have been ratified and form the basis for  labour legislation in Barbados and a number of the Ministry of Labour's policies and programmes:
